I am about to upgrade my licence from Trados 2021 to 2022. But will that mean I lose my licence for Trados 2021 completely and not be able to use 2021 again? If this is the case, I would not have bought 2021 as I still need to use 2021 for some of my clients.

You can continue to use Trados 2021 as long as it is installed on the same PC as Trados 2022. In any case, Trados 2021 and Trados 2022 are compatible.
