"Package 'Suite repair utility' could not be installed. Error number: -1" - during installation of SDL Trados Studio 2015 Freelance Plus Upgrade from SDL Trados Studio 2014; tried Workaround 1: Add registration key; still the same problem. Do not want to deinstall Studio 2014 as I am in the middle of a project and don't want to be left stranded without any SDL Trados Studio version. How can I install SDL Trados Studio 2015?
Hi Renate,
The first thing to note is you do not have to uninstall 2014 in order to install 2015. The next thing is that the second solution to this problem is to de-install 2011, not 2014. This message occurs because the update finds a specific registration key that was added prior to the installation of SDL Trados Sudio 2011 SP2R.
Do you still have 2011 installed?
If not, and if you're worried about being left stranded, then can you raise a support case for this and a support engineer can resolve this for you. Alternatively wait until your project is complete and then tackle it. But if you want to look at this now go to the Knowledgebase;
Then go to the tab called Solution Finder ( http://kb.sdl.com/?cid=23&tab=sf ) and now go here;

So if you have tried everything suggested, when you get to this point you'll be presented with a form to contact support. Complete all the fields in the form making sure your email address is entered correctly or nobody will be able to get back in touch with you.
Also use the Chrome browser to log the case if you have it; you'll get more success in completing the form.

Please try the "new" registration key. Download the ZIP from here:

1. Download and save the SuiteUninstallString.zip (see link above) file to your local hard drive; it contains the SuiteUninstallString.reg file.
2. Extract the zip file on your local drive. Do not unzip the files on an external hard disk or on another partition.
3. Browse to the folder where you extracted the SuiteUninstallString.reg.
4. Double-click on SuiteUninstallString.reg. A message appears asking if you are sure to add the information to the registration editor.
5. Click on Yes to confirm.

Thank you for your suggestion. I had downloaded the SuiteUninstallString.zip from the website before and run the unzipped filed, but I had not downloaded it via ftp. I followed your advice, downloaded the file via ftp, unzipped and run it and did not receive the "Package 'Suite repair utility' could not be installed. Error number: -1" error anymore.[Y]
However, I received the "This product cannot be installed on a machine that has SDL Trados 2007 on it. Please remove SDL Trados 2007 and retry." error.
I followed the instructions on http://kb.sdl.com/#tab:homeTab:crumb:7:artId:5205 and adapted them for Studio 2015 - and could then install Trados Studio 2015.[:D]
TradosCompatibility2.msi still does not install, but that does not seem to cause any problem as I can open Studio 2014 projects in Studio 2015 and can save files as SDL Trados 2007 ttx files.
I am already working in Trados Studio 2015 now and noticed an improvement in productivity.
