I'm evaluating Trados Freelance to decide if the tool is a productivity boost. However, I'm unable to install a machine translation database on my Trados. Does anybody know what has to be done? I already watched support videos but those are as helpful as a root canal treatment.

What makes you think this is possible at all? Or do you mean you are unable to add a Machine Translator Provider to Studio?
If the former you should put together a proper post explaining what you have tried and post into the appropriate developers forum for Trados Studio. If it's the latter perhaps you can tell us which one you have tried to install?

FYI - As a new user I installed a trial version and followed the information provided by the supplier. If it doesn't work after 3 days of video watching, attempt to follow the supplier's recommendation to fail. I've contacted my Trados contact, and so far no reply.
I'm afraid you are not helping here. Please be specific about what doesn't work? How can anyone help you if you cannot explain what's not working?
