I bought my Trados licence when I was freelance (March) and want to use it now as a full-time employee (August) for the same boss who I used to do freelance work for. Are there any legal problems regarding Intellectual Property (IP) Laws, should I use my Trados licence to work as a fulltime employee? Does my boos have to have his own Trados licence to protect the integrity of his IP rights?

  • Hi

If you intend to use the Freelance license on your employer's PC, please note that Freelance versions do not work on a company domain, they only work on LAN (local area network) and you would need a Professional license in that case. Other than that, according to our terms and conditions, you are the sole owner of the product. The license is individual and not meant to be shared. Any other issue/legal provision is between you and your employer. If your employer allows you to use your own license and you agree to do so, I see no issue, but please note I am not in the position to give you legal advice and not aware of the law in this area. Also, RWS is not liable for any issues that may come up between you and your employer, since according to our terms and conditions, you are the license owner.

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Elisa
