Unable to activate license for SDL Trados 2017

I have successfully installed SDL Trados Studio 2017 SR1 on my new PC (as well as MultiTerm) having asked for it to be deactivated on the old PC by RWS and been advised that this was done, but I haven't been able to activate the license. 

I am able to log onto the RWS website from a browser but not from within the program, although the PC is connected to the internet.

When I try to activate the license, I get the following message:

L’activation a échoué.

Impossible de se connecter au serveur d’activation. Vérifiez l’adresse du serveur d’activation dans les paramètres du fournisseur. – La demande a été abandonnée : Impossible de créer un canal sécurisé SSL/TLS.

I had no problems at all with reactivating another license, that for the Professional version of Trados which I use at work, on a different PC.

I have already written to RWS and was advised by a Customer Experience Representatives to come here and log a case but I can't see where to do that.
