  • Your policy is not just at all. I purchased a perpetual license, but since it's no longer covered by service and I don't have the right to install it on a new computer, that means there's no point in having a perpetual license in the first place.
I don't think you have that much authority in your company. I hope the management will show sincerity. Please tell your boss about this.

You purchased a perpetual licence and this grants you the right to use it for as long as you are able to maintain it.  It does not grant you the right to have everlasting support.  If it wasn't so old and used technology we don't even have access to anymore then we may well be happy to help you even if its out of support.  But for anything older than 2015 we simply cannot.

So the advice from Sorin was accurate.  You either leave the application running on the computer it was originally installed on, or purchase a new licence for the current version of Trados Studio if you wish to continue working with Trados.

  • Perpetual license, but the catch is that the service is not permanent. This is nothing more than a lie and an illusion.
How many of my colleagues trust and purchase these products? I am a person who works in the translation industry of my country, and the translation industry pool in my country is very small. That means bad rumors can spread about you.
If you do not give me a sincere answer to this, I will cite this issue to my wider community and discuss the issue. I would like to hear an answer from someone who can respond.

I think it may be worth you reviewing the EULA for the product.  A perpetual licence grants you the ability to install and use the software.  It does not mean we have to support you in being able to do this for ever.  The reason this is written this way is because it isn't reasonable to expect any company to support you for decades after the version of software you're using has been out of support.  So if you choose not to upgrade, or take a support contract that ensured you were always provided with the latest version as part of that contract, then the responsibility for actually maintaining the application is yours.  You have a right to use it, but not a right to receive our support in doing so.

I'm going to close this thread because there is no point in debating it.  If you would like to take this up further then please send me an email and I'd be happy to ensure this is addressed at the appropriate level.  You can send it to pfilkin at sdl dotcom
