I have purchased:
Trados Studio Freelance - 12 month subscription
Order Number: xxxxx
VAT Number: xxxxxxxxx
And I am now wondering when I will get the activation code.
I received an email today at 11:51 CET from RWS that my new subscription has started.
I have 2 days left on my old 2022 license, and have downloaded but not yet installed the new one.

Subscription licences don't use activation codes. You simply login to Studio with your RWS credentials and the licence will be drawn.

Will I need to install the WorldServer Compatibility Pack again as well?

It all depends on whether you upgraded your previous version so you had the latest one? All you are doing in renewing the licence, not replacing the software.
The available downloads for this app are:
So of you had updated your Studio to be on 2022 SR2 CU10 which is this version:
Trados Studio 2022 SR2 - 17.2.10.19084
And if you had a working compatibility pack installed, then you won't need to install it again when you renew your licence.

The current Studio 2022 build is 17.0.0.11594. In this installed Studio I see an alert top right which shows the update to SR2 available for download and install.
I have already downloaded the new installer TradosStudio2022SR2_17.2.10.19084.exe
Can I just run that and install the 2022SR2 or is it important to do it from within Studio?

It's better to use the integration from Studio as this will work through the installation and removal of old versions correctly.
You should remove the Worldserver Compatibility app from Add/Remove programs first, so before you update Studio because the version you have is definitely going to be too old. So remove it, then update Studio and then get the new one from the integrated appstore.

I seem to have managed to do all of the above successfully!
The link to the appstore from Studio does not work, but I found the WS Compatibility app on https://appstore.rws.com/Plugin/103
There are 2 versions of 2022 SR2 for which the WS compatibility app is available:
17.2.8.1963 - Trados Studio 2022 (SR2)
&
17.10.1989 - Trados Studio 2022 SR2 (CU10)
I chose the first one (bolded). It installed ok and the buttons are displayed in Studio, but I can't test it yet with a real life wsxz file.
