"setup has detected a different version of this product already installed"

Having purchased Trados Studio 2024, I would like to uninstall my previous Studio 2021 version before in order to obtain a clean installation. Trying to unstall Studio 2021 using the installer ("chainer") my system returns the message mentioned in the subject.

I am aware that I am not the first person to encounter this problem, so I tried the fixes suggested in previous postings--however, to no avail:

1) I renamed  the System folder to System_old in C:\ProgramData\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel RMS Development Kit

2)  Entering lsinit.exe –debug in C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\SDL\SDLTradosStudio2021SR2 returns to result

3) I started the the RemoveStudio.ps1 powershell script as administrator, with no result either.

What else is there to do to successfully clean my registry?

  • In you email message (the content of which doesn't appear here) you suggested to either run the program "Wise Program Uninstaller" or delete the folders C:\Program Files
(x86)\Trados\Trados Studio and C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\Trados and then try again to uninstall the program.

Wise Program Uninstaller will return the same error message ("has detected a different version" etc.), and once I delete the package cache files, the file "Chainer" required by Windows isn't available anymore.

So I guess I will have to look up and delete the Trados data in the registry manually.

Either SDL or Microsoft haven't done their homework...
