Deprived from the access to SDL Trados 2014 because new version is installed in another computer

I have SDL Trados 2014 on my computer in one province, where I am currently staying, and SDL Trados 2021 on another computer in another province. I am commuting between 2 provinces and it's important to me to have 2 working computers without addionial ado with activation and desactivation of the newest license. Now, I am not able to work with both SDL Trados because SDL Trados 2014 cannot see the license, and I am not able to switch to SDL Trados 2021 because I need an installation ID (in addition to the installation password) from the computer in another province. I have to deliver my project tomorrow and I cannot go to another province (the trip takes me 8 hours) just to manually deactivate SDL Trados 2021.

I am wondering, I have an unlimited license for both SDL Trados, but I cannot use either of them. Any suggestions on how to handle this problem (to get access to my SDL Trados software) would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi!

I am not sure what you mean by SDL Trados 2014 cannot see the license, but Trados 2014 and the third-party licensing technology that supports the produt have reached the end of life and therefore end of support since 2022. The licensing technology has been decommissioned, which means that license activation, deactivation and license resets will no longer work on Trados 2014 and lower editions.

You can continue to use your Trados 2014 on the environment that it is installed on, but should you wish to move your license to another laptop or PC or should you wish to upgrade your version of Windows on the laptop or PC that Trados 2014 is installed on, the license will no longer work and there's no possibility of resetting it.

The RWS official documentation for end-of-life can be found here: https://gateway.rws.com/csm?id=kb_article_view&sys_kb_id=c6863f5683806e14a6b1fab8beaad35d&spa=1

As for Trados 2021, if the license is active on one computer, you cannot activate it on a second one - unless you deactivate it first. In case of emergency, you can reset the license from your RWS account and activate it on a different computer but keep in mind to deactivate it before trying to use it on the initial computer where you had it installed first. Currently the license appears as Available in your RWS account, so you should be able to activate it - either online or offline following the steps in the videos we offer for activating and deactivating a license.
