If your computer crashed and didn't have the possibility to deactivate Trados before moving it to a new hard drive, you need to reset the license from your RWS account. You Login, into your RWS account, then go to the Licenses tab and next to the activation code you have a green Reset license button. Click on it, allow the system a few moments to perform the reset and you can activate the license after about 30 minutes, as the system also advises.

After resetting the license, you can activate it again, either online or offline, like in the videos below:

Thank you for your reply. From the video, I need to have Trados Studio open so I can paste Deactivation Authorization code in and get Deactivation Certificate, but how do I do that since my new hard drive doesn't have Trados Studio on it. Is there any way to deactivate without opening the software? Please correct me if I misunderstood your suggestions.

Hi Aree,

You cannot deactivate Trados since the computer crashed when it was still active, you need to reset the license as I indicated above and then just activate it either online or offline.

Trados can be deactivated or activated as long as you can open the software. But when something unexpected happens, like a computer crash with the need to reinstall Windows or the need for a new hard drive which means everything is installed from scrap and that you no longer have access to the instance where Trados was still active, then you need to reset the license. I hope this is clearer now
