Trados Studio 2024 SR1 crashes on startup

I was running Trados Studio 2024 SR1 (18.0.1.2259) on Windows 10, when my Windows crashed. Upon the restart, Windows decided to run an update.

After this, Trados refuses to start. The little splash screen with the software info appears for a few seconds and then disappears without starting the software.

I have since uninstalled all other older versions of Trados from the machine.

I have run the repair function and I have uninstalled Trados and installed a newer build (18.1.2.6370 – the little software info splash screen is now blue).

I have tried running the software as administrator, with the same result.

With every startup crash it generates a log file under Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18\logs, but these files are all empty.

Any ideas?

Question improvement suggestion: Provide the exact error message or any error codes generated during the crash, if available.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with Trados Studio 2024 SR1 crashing on startup. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

**Step 1:** **Check for Windows Updates**

Make sure your Windows operating system is fully updated. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for any pending updates. Install them and restart your computer.

**Step 2:** **Repair Trados Studio Installation**

    1. Close all RWS applications.

    2. Open Control Panel and navigate to Programs > Programs and Features.

    3. Find Trados Studio in the list, right-click it, and select 'Repair'.

    4. Restart Trados Studio after the repair process is complete.

**Step 3:** **Verify .NET Framework Installation**

Ensure that you have .NET Framework 4.8 installed, as it is required for Trados Studio 2024. You can check this in the Control Panel under Programs and Features.

    **Step 4:** **Refresh .NET Framework**

    1. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Turn Windows features on or off.

    2. Uncheck the box for .NET Framework 4.5 (or higher), restart your computer, then check the box again and restart once more.

**Step 5:** **Check for Corrupted Translation Memory (TM) or Termbase**

If the crash occurs at a specific segment, it may be due to a corrupted TM or termbase. Disable them one by one in Project Settings > Language Pairs > Translation Memory or Termbases to identify the culprit.

    **Step 6:** **Store Resources Locally**

If your translation resources are stored on a shared drive or cloud service, try moving them to a local folder and see if the issue persists.

**Step 7:** **Reset Trados Studio to Default Settings**

If the problem continues, consider resetting Trados Studio to its default settings. You can find instructions on how to do this in the Trados documentation.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, please provide any error messages or codes that appear during the crash, as this information can help in diagnosing the problem further.

  • Hi

A reset might help you with this.  To do this just close Trados Studio and then delete these folders:

    %appdata%\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18\

    %appdata%\Trados\Trados Studio\18\

You will lose your plugins, and also your settings, but your projects and other resources will remain untouched. Putting the plugins back is trivial via the integrated appstore.

If you can't find these folders then you need to unhide your hidden files/folders:

    www.howtogeek.com/.../

Then restart Trados Studio and see if that helped.

    Kind regards,

  • Sorry, no. This does nothing. Trados just makes a new "Studio18" folder and writes another empty log file.

    Thanks,
    Niko

  •

Trados just makes a new "Studio18" folder and writes another empty log file.

This recreation of the folder is expected. But did the manual deletion step help with your issue?
