2024 Studio Freelance won't open after multiple workarounds

I am having a problem with Studio 2024 Freelance (Trados Studio 2024 SR1 - 18.1.2.6370)

Similar to other threads I have seen here, when I launch it I get the opening box saying everything is loading and initializing, etc., and then the box disappears and Studio does not open.

I have been using Studio 2024 since about February of this year and have had no problems until a few weeks ago (early September), after a Windows 11 update.

However, rolling back the update did not fix the problem. I am using Windows 11 with all latest updates.

I found other threads describing the same problem from months ago. I did the workarounds recommended (renaming folders, etc.) along with multiple reinstalls.

Generally the workarounds would help for one session, but then Studio 2024 either exits suddenly and will not reopen, or if I close Studio 2024 it will not reopen, in both cases showing the behavior described. Going back through the workarounds/fixes then temporarily works again, rinse and repeat. The problem continues to recur.

However -- I have Studio 2024 installed on two machines. On the one machine, where it is installed by itself, it now seems to be working ok, even though I originally had the above-described problems for a while.

However, on the other machine it is installed alongside Studio 2022 SR 2. That caused no problems from February until September -- I was able to use Studio 2024 normally -- and my understanding is it should be ok.

On that machine, though, the problems described are continuing to happen. I can successfully use Studio 2022 on that machine to do my work. But the sequence is a little odd -- I have to open Studio 2022, then click on the package I was sent to work on, and the Studio 2024 (not 2022) opening box appears and then disappears, but then the package opens in Studio 2022 and everything works fine after that.

Any thoughts or advice appreciated. I would like for 2024 to work as it did for months before the problems started.

Question improvement suggestion: Provide specific error messages or codes if available, and clarify the exact workarounds you have already attempted.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with Trados Studio 2024 Freelance not opening properly after a Windows update. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem:

**Step 1:** **Check for Windows Updates**

Ensure that your Windows 11 is fully updated. Sometimes, additional updates can resolve compatibility issues. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

**Step 2:** **Repair Trados Studio Installation**

You can repair your installation of Trados Studio 2024. To do this:

    - Close all RWS applications.

    - Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.

    - Find Trados Studio 2024, right-click on it, and select 'Repair'.

    - Restart your computer after the repair process is complete.

**Step 3:** **Verify .NET Framework Installation**

Make sure that the .NET Framework 4.8 is installed on your system, as it is required for Trados Studio 2024. You can check this by going to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and looking for the .NET Framework version.

**Step 4:** **Reset Trados Studio Settings**

If the issue persists, consider resetting Trados Studio to its default settings:

    - Close all RWS applications.

    - Navigate to `C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\` and rename the folder corresponding to your version (e.g., `Studio18`) to something like `Studio18_old`.

    - Restart Trados Studio.

**Step 5:** **Check for Corrupted Translation Resources**

Since you mentioned that you can open packages in Studio 2022, it might be worth checking if any Translation Memories (TMs) or termbases are corrupted. Disable them one by one in the project settings to see if that resolves the issue.

    **Step 6:** **Reinstall Trados Studio**

If none of the above steps work, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling Trados Studio 2024. Make sure to back up your settings and resources before doing this.

If the problem continues after trying these steps, please provide any specific error messages you encounter, as this can help in diagnosing the issue further.
