How can I reactivate my SDL Trados Studio 2009 license on a new computer??

I successully activated and used SDL Trados Studio 2009 on my old PC a few years ago.

Now I want to use this software on my new computer, not using it on my old computer anymore since I have only one license. Unfortunately, this does not work - the behaviour is as follows:

* Install Trados

* Start Trados; a product activation dialog appears with three options where I choose option 2 since I have bought the software and have a key (1. I want to buy this product and open the website / 2. I already own a license and want to activate the product now / 3. Go on in evaluation mode)

* Another dialog appears with another three options where I choose option 1 (1. Activate product online (recommended) / 2. Connect to a license server in my LAN / 3. Use local license file)

* In the next dialog I am prompted to enter the license key: I enter the key that I purchased:

The activation of the fulfillment is denied by the activation policy because max extra acts exceeded # 1050-171840 (Fehlercode 50040)

In the manual, I read a chapter what to do when this licensing issue occurs. Unfortuantely, the procedure does NOT work for me:

* Start license manager: the license status is shown

* Show licences -> click repair license -> THIS DOES NOT WORK (because the license that I bought is not listed, only a license LOCAL_TRIAL_FID_19 -> I cannto choose my license and sent it to SDL to repair it)

Can somebody please help me?

Before you can activate the license on your new PC, you first need to return it on the old one, so that it becomes available again.

You do this by launching Studio on your old PC (if you still have it ad it is still operating), going to "Help - Product Activation" and choosing "Deactivate". This will return your license. You can check this by going to your customer account, under "Licences" the license should show "Available = 1". If you don't have access to your old PC anymore, you can also return the license from the customer account using the self-service deactivation option(it is explained there).

The procedure you mention that you tried to follow is not for Studio, but for the old Trados Workbench, this is why it did to work.

  • Dear Walter

thank you very much for your reply!
The problem is that I lost my old customer account - that's why I registered again.

Is there any possibility to move my license from my old account to my new account?

    I can offer the following:
    * I can prove that I own the software
    * I am also willing to reactivate my old account (I just lost the password over the years) to return the license there

    Thank you in advance
    Martin
