What is the solution for the error message "Failed to save file as: could not find file, etc, etc?" (See Description for further detail)

I am a new user of SDL Studio 2015, using the evaluation version. My first attempt to work in the product failed. When I attempted to save my file, I received the following error message: "Failed to save file as: could not find file C\Users\Mark\AppData\Local\Temp\tmp\D866.tmp\  .

I consulted the Knowledge Base, which seemed to indicate that  I should install the Studio-KB8124-3.zip package. I have attempted to do so several times, only to receive a Windows Installer error message saying, "The upgrade patch cannot be installed becaue the program ot be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch." Can anybody please advise?

  • Hi Mark,

This might be related to you running software on your machine that cleans up the tmp files while Studio is still running. So perhaps an AntiVirus program or clean up tool that needs to be configured to allow the Studio application.

I think you may have to recreate the bilingual file and try again, so open the source file again as a new project and then pretranslate it from your Translation Memory. Then save the target file.

  • Hi Paul, I'm very grateful to you but I'm afraid I'm no further forward. I use iolo System Mechanic, a system diagnosis and repair tool incorporating an anti-virus program. But, I wouldn't know how to begin to check whether it deletes tmp files or not. I'm currently working on a very large translation project that takes up most of my time. That is the main reason why I wanted to start using SDL Trados in the first place. I wonder whether you can elaborate on the tmp file issue, or suggest some further solution.
  • Hi Mark,

You could try disabling this application you are using for a while to see whether this prevents you from getting any problems, but if you don't wish to do that then the procedure for preventing your tool from cleaning up the activities of a specific application is here:

    support.iolo.com/.../How-to-exclude-items-from-the-System-Mechanic-Junk-File-Removal-tool

I don't know this tool so can't really help you more than this but it does seem that this could be the likely culprit.
