Studio 2015 license deactivated after trying to open Studio without internet

I tried to open Studio on a flight today (no Internet connection). It said my license had expired and closed.  When I reopened Studio later (with an Internet connection), I discovered I've lost the activation (i.e. in My Account it appears in use, but it isn't).

This is the second time in a month that it's been impossible to open Studio due to licensing issues. First time the internet connection was poor and this time there was none at all. This time I lost valuable work time on the aeroplane while fiddling about trying to export TMs to tmx (without access to Studio or XBench) so that I could work in memoQ, which doesn't have these licensing bugs.

Very frustrating experience :(

  • Hi Emma,

The dev team picked this up from your post and wondered whether it was possible that a physical WiFi switch had been turned off (by mistake) or that a removable hard drive was no longer present? The license info sticks to the disk ID and MAC address and if one of them changes or becomes unavailable the product returns to trial mode. They then ran a test where they disabled their network adaptors and the license was lost.

So perhaps this is the cause for you?

In the meantime the team will raise with SafeNet and see what the most appropriate action will be to prevent this happening in the future.

    Regards

  • Thank you for asking the dev team to follow this up, Paul.
I'm not sure what you mean by a physical WiFi switch. When I fly, I just put the laptop in Aeroplane mode.
Yes, I do have an external hard disk (for data backup), which I don't travel with. But I can't imagine Studio puts the license info there, does it? Also, Studio didn't return to trial mode. It simply closed.

Will be putting it to the test again next week when I fly home...
  • Hi Emma.... I didn't ask, the guys proactively picked it up from your post. One of the benefits of using the SDL Community!

I'm flying today too and have been testing this, but don't seem able to lose my license at all. It may be hardware related... but no doubt the development team will solve this.
