Computer destroyed

Hi,

Things changed quickly since our last conversation:

1. Since then, my main computer blew up (power cut off while I was booting and it cannot be restarted - I have to reinstall Windows and all other software). One of my two licenses for Studio 2011 and Studio 2014 products had been downloaded on this main computer and I don't know how to recover these licenses. What should I do to be able to reinstall Studio 2011 and Studio 2014 on that computer once Windows has been reinstalled on it?

2. In the meantime, I work on my backup computer, where I had already installed my second Studio 2011 license. This works just fine.

I also downloaded my second Studio 2014 license on the backup computer, but I am unable to activate it.

The screen looks like this: at the top: SDL Trados Studio 2014 Product Activation

Under that: "Active license SDL Trados Studio 2011 Freelance - The active license does not support this version of the product - Deactivate license and activate a valid license for this product." Then, there is a deactivate click-on symbol.

I don't know what to do. I don't want to risk losing my Studio 2011 software, which is the only one which works right now. Still, I need to be able to use Studio 2014 (using Studio 2011 as a backup while trying to get Studio 2014 to work). Does the message mean that you cannot have both 2011 and 2014 on the same computer?

Sorry for this long email. I know that this is a lot to ask, but losing my main computer was a real blow and I cannot solve this by myself.

    I'll try to tackle your questions as you asked them.

    You actually don't have a license for Studio 2011 because you upgraded it to 2014.  If you had purchased a new license and not upgraded then you would still own the right to use them both.  Most users take advantage of the ability to use the older version for as long as they can (this is ok...), but if you need to move computers, or recover a corrupted hard disk for example then you will only have the entitlement to your upgraded licence available to you.  So you can only access Studio 2014 now.

    I think, in the situation you are in that you can now only use the product you hold a licence for and this is Studio 2014.  You can run 2011 and 2014 together if you have a license for them both, but as explained above you no longer have a license for 2011 as you upgraded it to 2014.

    I checked your licenses and you do have an additional license available to you for 2014 so you should be able to activate this as soon as you return the 2011 license.  If you find after this that you don't have access to your second license, which is likely given your situation, then you can reset it yourself.  Go to KB article #5196 ( kb.sdl.com/.../article ) and follow the instructions.
