License activation Urgent help required: Your current license does not allow you to run SDL Trados Studio when connected to a corporate domain-based network.

Question

Hi all, 
 I have purchased Trados 2015 Studio Freelance Version and now can't activate it since, I get this domain error: 
 "Your current license does not allow you to run SDL Trados Studio when connected to a corporate domain-based network." 
 How do I disconnect from the corporate network? I used to have a customer who set up my laptop for their domain. But I work locally from home and am a freelancer. I have set up a local account on my machine, rebooted and still get the message. PLEASE HELP I have this big project and have spent hours already on trying to get this to work. 
 HOW DO I DISCONNECT FROM THE CORPORATE NETWORK?

You could try removing the PC from the domain by following these steps: 
 
1.Right click on the "My Computer" icon and select "Properties" option. 
2.For Windows Vista/7 - Click the "Change settings" button 
3.Click on the "Change" button 
4.In the new window select the "Workgroup:" and enter "home" for example. 
5.Depending on your account type you might be required to enter a local Administrator password. 
6.You will be asked to reboot your computer 
7.SDL Trados Studio should work without any problems.

There are two possible reasons for this. First, you might be running what's known as a domain based network at home to allow whoever set up your home network to manage all the computers using it. This would also prevent a Freelance license from being used. In this case a Workgroup network might be appropriate and you can still manage the network. The advantage is a Freelance license will work. 
 
The other reason is that the laptop you are using came from a company who locked it down to work in a corporate environment. So I have a laptop like this and even though I'm working from home and don't have a domain based network I cannot use a Freelance license. 
 
There are advantages to using a domain based network at home as opposed to a workgroup but I think its rare unless you have an IT expert in the house who manages the network this way. If this is the case please drop me an email, pfilkin@sdl.com
