Using two computers with Freelance Plus

Hello,

I often want to use two computers (desktop and laptop) for the same translation project or package. If I start on one then want to continue on the other (and quite possibly continue alternating between the two computers) what is the easiest way to transfer the work done so far from one computer to another?

Many thanks in advance,

Chris

  • If you create exactly the same folder structure on both computers, you can simply copy the project folder and afterwards use a decent synchronization software to keep the project up to date.

In that respect I would always recommend to work with project, not using the "Open document" command.

In my case this works that way:

Both PC and laptop have a HDD with the letter D:\

The path to the project is D:\projects\customer name\customer project number\project folder (on both computers exactly the same).

The path to translation memories, termbases and auto suggest dictionaries is in both cases D:\Trados\TMs\language pair and similar for the rest.

You MUST keep exactly the same paths to get that working, but if you do, it is enough to copy the project folder from one PC to another and double click there the *.sdlproj file

From then on your project will be available there. Afterwards you simply synchronize the folders and the job is done.

    Works like a charm.

    Best regards

    Jerzy
