license deactivation/reactivation

Hi there,

I need two use two Laptops to work but never simultaneously.
Is there a limit to the number of license deactivations/reactivations for Trados 2015 Freelance?
Thanks in advance,

  • Hi Jose,

I just want to add to what Alison already suggested. Yes, you can deactivate and reactivate the Studio software as many times as required. However as the best practise please allow at least 30 minutes after deactivation on one computer and reactivation on the other. That time is needed for the servers to catch up. Please note that with PLUS version you can also use one of the activations and keep the second one for emergency situations such as PC breakdown.

I had a look at your SDL account and noted that your FREE SDL Studio 2017 upgrade has not yet been processed.

When upgrading, SDL allow you to continue using your previous version under certain criteria***- allowing a smooth migration process to the latest version.

If you wish to keep the previous (2015) FREELANCE license on the same machine as Studio 2017-

PLEASE DO NOT deactivate the actual license in Studio-

ONLY process the upgrade in your account. A deactivated license cannot be reset!

You may continue to use the legacy version until-

-you attempt to migrate the software to a new PC/ cloud storage etc.

-deactivate the license (intentionally or by mistake)

    -upgrade your OS

    -reformat your hard drive

    Thank you,

    Roman

  • Hi Roman,
I've read this very useful thread, but as your answer mentioned other parameters that do not apply to me and -quite frankly- had me confused, I would like to be sure of something:

Can you confirm that, as Alison Field said, there are absolutely no limitations applying to transferring a license back and forth between two computers (I have just acquired a new desktop, but I will still occasionally need to use my laptop to work abroad)?

I do not own any upgrade so my case should be much more simple.

    Regards

None whatsoever, you can deactivate/activate as many times as you like.  But if you only have two computers a Freelance Plus licence might make sense so you don't have do this.  If you forget it's a bit of a nuisance!

  • Thank you very much for the answer and the advice.
I have been considering this upgrade, indeed. But apparently, I can no longer get a Frelance Plus edition for Studio 2015 (if such edition ever existed), meaning I will need to pay the cost of the upgrade to Studio 2017 and to Plus combined.
My budget for this year does not allow me to do that, but next year, I definitely will.
