SDL XLIFF Split/Merge - Can't write target text & can't merge split files back together (one of the files includes comments and tracked changes!) ("Failed to save target content: Unable to locate original file")

Hello everyone,

I need the split sdlxliffs separately for revision (with tracked changes & comments), but can’t get a target file. Target file is only possible if I accept all tracked changes, get rid of any comments and merge the split files back together again --- but that doesn't make any sense in my case.

Any ideas

  • Hi ,

Do you expect to be able to create separate target files from each of the split files? That will not be possible. Or do just want to be able to merge the split files together, complete with comments and track changes and then merge them again before removing the tracked changes and comments? This will probably never be possible.

  • Hi, Paul,
thanks for giving my problem a thought...
I would/could need both, 1a) but most importantly I need a separate target file from only one split file, with all comments and tracked changes (first half of a translated text). I need to forward it to someone who comments on the changes and related questions, but who does not use Trados. I managed to use the Print preview (Option show changes and comments) and produced a PDF of the bilingual display.
1b) Once all discussion about changes and comments is finished, I would want a clean first half (ideally without having to use a complicated Workaround via the Print Preview).
    2) Depending on how quickly we work through the second half of the text, plus the commenting/correction of both first and second half, I might want to remerge the two splits including comments and changes.
But I realized that this doesn't work and that I can only remerge "clean" splits. Unfortunately, this makes the workflow quie complicated...
Unless you have any other suggestions...
    Hoping for good programmers' ideas
