SDL Trados 2017: Can't install plugins or get SDL Plugin Management to work

Question

When I click on the .sdlplugin files I've downloaded from the AppStore, nothing happens: no error message, no icons, nothing...Same thing when I click SDL Plugin Management link on the Welcome view in Studio 2017. 
 I've found a similar question about this in the past (Trados 2017 new install: SDL Plugin Management not open...), but in that case the user got error messages when trying to install plugins. I don't get anything at all. 
 I desperately need to start work on a txml Wordfast file, so I need to install the TXML plugin. Any ideas how this issue could be solved?

This problem may be coming from leftover registry keys created from previous installations. Please use the Registry Editor and go to this key: 
 
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\SDL\ 
 
The Studio 5 folder corresponds to Studio 2017, Studio4 to Studio 2015 and anything below that relates to older installations of SDL Trados Studio. If you no longer have those versions installed then please delete the leftover registry entries (Studio2, Studio3, etc). 
 
If this doesn't help you then just manually copy the Sdl.Community.FileType.TXML.SDLPLUGIN file to this location: 
 
c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14\Plugins\Packages\ 
 
Then restart Studio.
