Can I use Studio Migration Utility to transfer all the software transfers (plugins, list of projects, TM, ...) from one my laptop running Studio 2019 Freelance Plus to a new laptop running my Studio 2019 Freelance Plus?

This would perfectly sync my 2 computers running at the same level and I can travel with the one I new one I want to take with me

  • Hi

No. But it's a simple exercise to copy the files and projects from one computer to the other, and even the plugins. I don't know where you store your TMs and Projects but the plugins are probably all in here if you used the default installation settings:

    c:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15\Plugins\

So you can simply copy the contents of the Packages folder across. No need to take the Unpacked.

If you let us know which plugins you have we might be able to tell you whether there might be more data available to save you setting up things all over again.

Also worth noting that if you have built the new laptop using the same username and folder structure as the old one then the process is very simple indeed.

  • Thanks for the quick answer. Plugins migration seems to be no longer an issue. The main worry are my settings in Files Options. I have done that already and I have to do it again, and combing through every personal settings I am using in Files Options take times and is tedious.
I could not find a "save/load" or "export/import" options for the whole set of personal settings I am using in the first laptop and I do not know when I will re-install Studio 2019 (repair did not work) if those settings I have will be gone in the process.
Do you know if I will loose my settings through a re-install?

So, as the Migration Utility does do all I need in the migration from 2017 to 2019 on the same computer, I was asking if it could do the same type of process from 2019 to 2019 between 2 computers.
  • Hi

The migration tool doesn't take these settings anyway. But if your file/folder structure is exactly the same in both machines then you might find that copying this folder across will do what you need:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15.0.0.0\

If the worst comes to the worst you can delete this in the new laptop anyway and Studio will just reset, so nothing will be lost by giving it a go. Most of the settings will be in this folder.

I would add that I am only suggesting this because you are moving computers with the same version of Studio.  This would not be a clever thing to do between different versions.
