Glossary Converter Can't Find MultiTerm

Question

When I start Glossary Converter, I get this error. 
 "Can't detect MultiTerm, using xdt/xml as termbase format instead." 
 
 MultiTerm 2019 is insltalled and working on my PC. 
 OS is Windows 10 64 bit. 
 
 How can I solve this problem?

Based on the glorious number of 2 successes so far, you can try this: go to C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTerm14 and copy the following files to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SDL\MultiTerm14: Sdl.Enterprise2.Studio.Platform.Client.dll Sdl.Enterprise2.Platform.Contracts.dll and then delete all folders in: C:\ProgramData\SDL\Sdl.MultiTerm.Tools.GlossaryConverter Cheers, Gerhard

I can't reproduce this, and neither can Gerhard. But we have so many users complaining about this since the latest updates to 2017 SR1 and to 2019 SR1 that it seems unlikely there is no correlation. I have asked development to look at this based on the feedback from Gerhard but as they only came back to work today I think it may be a little while before I have any more feedback.

In case you still have this problem: if you download the latest version of the Glossary Converter, the solution can be found in the Help: 
 This is a highly irregular error, which affects only some machines. It has become much more frequent since the release of Trados Studio SR1 and MultiTerm CU1. A number of events come together to cause it, and the easiest way to attempt a fix is to run the repair tool that come as part of the Glossary Converter installation: C:\Program Files (x86)\SDL OpenExchange\Glossary Converter\RepairMultiTerm.exe 
 This handles the known 2017/2019 problems. Since the exact causes are still not exactly clear, there is no guarantee it will work, but the success rate is high. 
 Solved the problem for me!

 If you're using Studio and MultiTerm 2017, you need to use the 2017 version of Glossary Converter. The 2019 version won't work. 
 Hope it's as simple as that!

If you can still reproduce the problem with the Glossary Converter not working anymore and can send me your logs it would be really helpful. Logs from these two locations would be useful, just for the time you recreated the problem. 
 
SDL Trados MultiTerm 
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\SDL\SDL MultiTerm\MultiTerm[x] (where [x] is the version number) 
Alternatively, you can open the SDL MultiTerm application and go to Tools > View log file and save the file. 
 
Application logs and System logs from the Microsoft Windows Event Viewer 
Open the Microsoft Windows Event Viewer: 
 
- Click START > Run… > type eventvwr > click OK. 
- Go to Windows Logs in the Event Viewer tree. 
- Right-click on Application and choose Save all events as... from the list and save it using the *.etvx extension. 
- Repeat the steps above for the System log. 
 
Also, if you have an explanation of what actually happens when you try it would be helpful too. Then you can send them to pfilkin@sdl.com either by email (if they are less than 10Mb when zipped) or via dropbox, googledrive, wetransfer or something similar.

I have figured out that when you get this error there is a problem with Settings.xml file in c:\ProgramData\SDL\Sdl.MultiTerm.Tools.GlossaryConverter\5.1.6860.15775 folder. When you open it, it's simply empty, so you need to copy and paste this line to Settings.xml file and save it. Command line below:
