where did the xml report come from? If it’s a Studio report you don’t need one. If it’s some other xml then you’ll need to either write the style sheet for it, or ask your customer for one.

You can’t use any old style sheet for any old report. They have to match each other.

Thanks for your swift reply, Paul. I'm glad to learn "If it’s a Studio report you don’t need one." But I don't see how I don't need one. 

I've just installed Reports Viewer Plus. In order to view a report, I go to "Add" in the ribbon, and the Add Project Report dialog opens. I select the Path to my Studio report (memorably named "Analyze Files de-DE_en-GB(15).xml"). After that, in the Template field, I need to "Select the XSLT file".

What am I missing? How can I view the report without a XSLT file?

You're the one with patience!  You are absolutely right... it's only html where you don't need the stylesheet.  So I added three stylesheets for various Studio formats to the wiki here:

This is my very first time using Report Views+ and I came into the same situation as Rachel. When I first open up a project then switch to Report View+, the Analysis Reports render correctly. But if I click the "Add" button to add other reports from previous projects, which were of course .xml instead of .html as you were aware of, Report View+ asked for .xslt template to render the reports correctly, which of course I don't have, same as Rachel. But it came to my mind that there must be a default SDL .xslt template there for Report View+ to render the reports for the current project opened, which, by right-clicking the current report and choose "Edit report properties", turned out to be: 

Sdl.ProjectApi.AutomaticTasks.Tasks.Analysis.Analysis.xslt

So the question is: do you know where this template is stored? Presumably by clicking the "Add" button and specify this template, I should be able to view any Trados generated Analysis Report directly without opening the project first, is that right? Thank you!

The templates used with Studio are embedded resources within the assembly Sdl.ProjectApi.AutomaticTasks (formally pre-cu05 ...\Tasks.Analysis.Analysis, ...\Task.Analysis.Pretranslate etc...).  You will need to use reflection to locate + save them somewhere locally on your disk drive before accessing them. 

This is automated via the Report.Viewer API, but only for reports that are recovered from the studio project itself.  It makes sense to extend this feature from the Reports Viewer API to automate the procedure for the use-case that you identified above.

Thank you so much Patrick! By using the Analysis.xlt you shared below as the template, I was able to view any old analysis report.xml in Reports View Plus directly, without opening the project. This is nice!
