Is the "MEMSOURCE CloudTM Provider" plug-in dead?

Whenever I try to connect to a Memsource project using this plug-in in Trados Studio 2021 Pro, I get an error message when I click on the blue "Login" link (after I enter the User ID [email address] and password that I use to connect to my Memsource account). (See screenshot below. This is the latest version of the plug-in, version 3.0.1.0, on Studio 2021.)

I contacted a Memsource Sales Rep via online chat and she replied "I just got word from our Support team that this SDL connector app is now obsolete. It uses a deprecated API, so it no longer works. The developer who created the app is no longer at SDL, so it's unclear if there will ever be an updated version."

Is this correct?

(Also, the SDL AppStore page for this plug-in mentions "This plugin was built specifically for the 1+ Freelancer Edition of Memsource." and according to this Memsource Sales Rep, the "1+ Freelancer Edition" of Memsource doesn't exist anymore, which tends to support the idea that this plug-in is outdated, yet the latest version of this plug-in has supposedly been updated for Trados Studio 2021 in November 2020, which seems contradictory.) Please let me know!

    True... true... false... false

The original app was built by a developer who didn't work for SDL at all!  But for many years now he has and is actually part of the SDL Community Developers Team.

"This plugin was built specifically for the 1+ Freelancer Edition of Memsource." and according to this Memsource Sales Rep, the "1+ Freelancer Edition" of Memsource doesn't exist anymore, which tends to support the idea that this plug-in is outdated, yet the latest version of this plug-in has supposedly been updated for Trados Studio 2021 in November 2020, which seems contradictory.

    Complicated.

It was originally built only for this version because Memsource and SDL had reasons for deliberately crippling it.  But Memsource removed support for that version of their software, and deprecated that version of their API.  We updated it for 2021 before the API was deprecated and it did still work for the current version of the free solution.  We then updated it again in November last year (see changelog) to support the new API and it is working for us today.  I have no idea what naming conventions they use for their solutions these days but I guess we should remove the references you note above.  In general it works, and it's also no longer crippled.

However, the issue you reported seems to be related to something else and it has been logged already.  We have this on our backlog as SDLCOM-2334.  It was logged in December.  We need to investigate this and see if we can reproduce the problem and solve it.  I can't give you a date for this yet, but I'll add this post to the item in our database so we can update you when/if it's solved.

  • Thank you, Paul, for your comprehensive reply. I am happy to hear that the plug-in is not dead, and I look forward to the update.

  • Hi

I noticed that this plugin doesn't exist in the Appstore any more.

Would that suggest that all support for it has been discontinued?

If I receive the login details to a Phrase project, so that I can use Trados to gain access to a client TM and TB, how would I currently be able to take advantage of having those login details and still translate within the Studio environment?

    Yes.

You can't.  Phrase had no interest to support a plugin like this and we cannot do it without them.  I confirmed this with David Canek directly in July last year.

    That seals it then.
