Perhaps updating Studio to CU8 may help you fix the issue.

Alternatively, p;lease check the file for notes and remove them if you are using an older version and cannot update.

No, this is the current version of Studio 2021. Steve has shown you the version of Studio 2019 by mistake.

For dealing with PDF: please convert the PDF using a decent OCR software BEFORE starting to translate it. In all cases this is really the only way to avoid trouble. And as you admit, it is a PDF heavily loaded with pictures. Neither Studio nor any other tool with automated conversion will deal with such file properly. The best way would be insisting on getting the editable source file from the customer, the second best option is to convert the PDF manually (or let it be converted by a DTP specialist*).

LOL. And here I was, thinking that for once in my life, was actually living in the future ;-) Another illusion gone....

Yes, I tried to convert it using a tool called pdf24 - I translated it into a Word file and PPT file, but neither of those worked either...... I eventually got an IDML file from the client, which worked fine, but lots of the elements from the pdf were missing (I am guessing they were included as images rather than text....). 

If text is missing in the IDML, this may have some more reasons as only images. The text may actually be set conditional and thus hidden. The text can be on locked layer or a layer, which was not exported. Ask the customer for the extra text in editable form or—if not available—provide a description of these text as table, for example.

As for the PDF conversion: my best experience is Abbyy FineReader, but even this tool delivers good results only when the conversion is prepared manually. Automated conversion does not work well, in any OCR tool.
