Unable to create a termbase file by Glossary Converter

Hi - I'm an user of Trados studio 2021 & MultiTerm 2021 Desktop.

I've been trying to covert my excel file (.xls) into a termbase file (.exe) through Glossary Converter but in vain.

After the conversion process, I only see "log (.log)"file and "output (.xls)" in my folder but when I checked the log file, there was zero error confirmed (i.e. all entries "written", and zero "filtered"). Please see attached image for this log.

Appreciate if you could advise me solutions to this. Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Hiroe

  • Hi Hiroe,

A termbase cannot have an .exe extension. That is the extension for an executable file.

In your screenshot, it indicates that your input file is an .xls and your output file is also an .xls

You will see in the opening screen box of glossary converter bottom left an 'in' pane and bottom right an 'out' pane. I presume you are seeing 'xls(x)' in both panes.

    Click on the 'Settings' box.

You should then see the 'General' tab with 'Output format when converting termbases' and below it a list of all the different formats you can have a termbase in.

I presume you want a MultiTerm termbase, which is usually at the top of the list. Make sure this is highlighted by clicking on it (or, if not, on another output format in the list).

Click 'OK' and the list will close, returning you to the front glossary converter screen.

Then, drag your Excel file from Windows Explorer into the 'in' box of the glossary converter screen and you should then find the type of termbase you selected will appear in the same folder as your original Excel file.

Let us know if this works or not.

    All the best,

    Ali Slight smile
