Error when opening SDLXLIFF Converter

Question

Hello, 
 We have Studio 2009 and Studio 2011 installed. 
 We also have SDLXLIFF Converter (even though compared to other colleagues' versions, it seems an older version). 
 
 We have been using Converter for some time but now, as the 2009 license has become inactive, the following message appears when trying to open Converter: 
 
 We have uninstalled and reinstalled SDLXLIFF Converter but the issue is not solved. 
 Why is is trying to use 2009 licence instead of 2011 licence? Why is it not installing the newer version? 
 Could you please advise?

What is the purpose of your conversion? 
For external review there is a process integrated in Studio now - see batch tasks.

Use the SDLXLIFF to Legacy converter and use the filter from the settings there. Export for external review is NOT suitable for any translation purposes, while the Legacy converter can produce files for translation in Trados 2007 - like TTX or bilingual word.

 It seems a long time ago now... but I have a feeling there was a version of this installed with Studio 2011 in the program group. So don't try and install the one you used with 2009, just run the one that comes with Studio 2011. 
 If you have problems with that too run a repair on Studio 2011 as you may have overwritten the new one with the old one! 
 That would be my guess based on what you've posted so far.

 This is a problem I agree... but today I think most professional translators should be used to using a CAT even if it's not their preferred way of working. Just goes with the territory. So using the Legacy Converter as Jerzy suggested means you can create files for them to work on in pretty much any CAT on the planet and then reimport to update your work. 
 Ideally of course they'd use Studio and you could suggest the Starter Edition perhaps if they don't use it a lot? 
 The problem with using the review word file for translating is the lack of controls and how easy it is to break. Although it wasn't intended to be used this way it does work if you and your translator are very careful... it's just not a recommended way of working.

There is a version of the "external" converter being installed by default with Studio 2015. It is called "SDLXLIFF Converter for Microsoft Office" and you should see it in the navigation panel of the "Welcome" view. If not, you can find it in the START menu of Windows.

Hi Dace, 
 This is probably because it also says this: 
 
 The supported versions are clear to see on all the apps. 
 So what would you suggest? Do we remove this so it's not available anymore at all? After all 2009 is no longer supported anyway and this app has been part of the prodict installation since Studio 2011. If you tell me we shouldn't have it I'll remove it!

ok... I just aded this to the description which will get updated in due course... there's an automatic polling of changes but I'm not sure when exactly. 
 
PLEASE NOTE: THIS APP IS INSTALLED WITH STUDIO 2011, 2014 AND 2015. LOOK IN THE PROGRAM GROUP FOR THESE VERSIONS OR THE NAVIGATION PANE IN 2014 AND 2015. THE VERSION PROVIDED HERE IN THE OPENEXCHANGE IS FOR STUDIO 2009 ONLY.

 I was referring to the app record in the openexchange. If the app doesn't contain any help info, and the majority probably don't, then the only way you know is by looking at the page you download it from. 
 To be honest I think it was a mistake installing any of these with the products and we should have left them all in the OpenExchange as it's a very common question for those apps that were included. If we'd been consistent this wouldn't be an issue. But at least it's only four apps and two of them have ben superceded by much improved apps on the OpenExchange anyway. So the Batch Find & Replace features are better served using the SDLXLIFF Toolkit, and SDL Legit! is a far better tool than TTXit!.
