Cannot connect AI Professional to Studio (anymore) - "insufficient quota"

Hello,

I have used AI Professional in Studio 2022 for a few months, but now it doesn't work anymore. I noticed it keeps searching without delivering answers, so I checked, removed AIP from the project settings and tried to add it again.

I always get this error code:

Screenshot of RWS AppStore Applications settings showing a 'Connection failed' error message with code 'insufficient_quota' indicating the user exceeded their quota.

Connection failed - code insufficient quota.

The thing is, I hardly used Chat GPT in the last few weeks, so I cannot have used it up (whatever "it" is ...). I also checked the API usage and it is zero.

(I don't understand the difference between using API and using Chat GPT ...??? I opened an account with Open AI to try out the AI Professional plugin and to do this I needed an API key, which I created and inserted and used and it worked. Until recently.)

I am regularly billed by Open AI, but I cannot use it at the moment. I asked them about this and they said to check the API usage (zero) and then ask the plugin provider what to do :-) So here I am.

Can you help me?

Trados Studio 2022 SR2 - 17.2.10.19084

AI Professional 1.0.6.0.

Thank you,

Jorinde

ChatGPT is a user interface provided by OpenAI for people to have a conversational experience with AI and all the features that brings.  It can be free and it can be paid.  The paid is a flat fee every month.

To use the OpenAI solutions in a CAT tool you need to have an API key because you are charged by how much you use... how many tokens.  You can have a free OpenAI account, but you will need to set up your billing and provide a credit card to able to use it with a key and it will work for a while.  The message you are seeing suggests you have used up your free quota with them (it's not a free amount each month!) and now you will have to enable the charges to start taking effect and bill you.

  • Hi Paul, thanks for answering me.

I do have a Chat GPT subscription and have paid 20 Dollars per month for that.
It is just starting to dawn on me I might have the wrong subscription ...

When you go to the Open AI website, there are two options, you can log into Chat GPT or you can go to API. I can log into both areas.

When I go to Chat GPT, I can see I have a Basis subscription, which auto-renews every month. (At the moment, I don't need Chat GPT for anything else yet, just AI Professional. So this is probably superfluous).

When I log into the API area, I can see an overview according to which some (very low) costs arose during those past months I used AI Professional. And I can see I don't have any more credit there.

So they are two different things???? What kind of payment do I have to make for AI Professional to work?

I realise this is actually not your/a Trados problem and I should contact Open AI for that, but you seem much more approachable - and maybe someone else here has the same problem.

    Thank you!

    Jorinde

EDIT: I just found and set up the pay-as-you-go account in the API area and have credit there now. This immediately solved my original problem of not being able to connect to Open AI. Hooray!

Last question: Do I still need the Chat Gpt subscription for the AI Professional Plugin to work?

    Thanks,

    Jorinde

Excellent... I was just about to direct you to where to go!

You don't need the ChatGPT subscription at all for this.  They are completely separate things.  The best way to answer this would be to use ChatGPT ;-)  Here's what I asked and the answer:

    DELETED LINK

ok - I deleted the link because our activation code protector (to prevent our users from sharing stuff they should not!) obfuscates the link.  So here's the full response:

Working with ChatGPT directly and using the OpenAI API to access its capabilities involve different processes and user experiences. Here’s a detailed comparison:

    Working with ChatGPT Directly

    1. Platform: You typically interact with ChatGPT directly via a user-friendly web interface provided by OpenAI, such as the ChatGPT app or website.
    2. User Experience:
      • Interactive and Immediate: Conversations are more interactive, with immediate responses.
      • No Coding Required: Ideal for users who are not familiar with programming or who prefer a straightforward, conversational interface.
      • Ease of Use: Users can ask questions or give instructions in natural language without needing to set up any technical environment.
    3. Features:
      • Rich Interface: Often includes additional features like chat history, message formatting, and other enhancements that improve the user experience.
      • Limited Customisation: Users have less control over the model’s behaviour and customisation compared to API usage.

    Using the OpenAI API

    1. Platform: Accessed through HTTP requests to OpenAI’s servers, typically integrated into software applications or services.
    2. User Experience:
      • Programmatic Access: Requires knowledge of programming and the ability to make API calls.
      • Flexible Integration: Suitable for developers looking to integrate AI capabilities into their own applications, workflows, or automated processes.
    3. Features:
      • Customisation and Control: Provides greater control over model parameters (like temperature and max tokens) and allows for custom integrations and workflows.
      • Automated and Scalable: Enables automated processes and can handle large volumes of requests, making it suitable for enterprise-level applications.
      • Developer Tools: Often includes SDKs, libraries, and other tools to help developers integrate and work with the API efficiently.

    Summary of Differences

    • Ease of Use: ChatGPT is easier and more intuitive for non-technical users, while the API requires programming knowledge.
    • Flexibility: The API offers more flexibility and customisation, suitable for integration into various applications.
    • Immediate Interaction vs Automation: ChatGPT provides immediate conversational interaction, whereas the API is geared towards automated and scalable use cases.
    • Control over Outputs: The API allows finer control over how the AI behaves and responds, which is limited in direct interaction with ChatGPT.

    Use Cases

    • ChatGPT: Best for individuals looking for quick, conversational interactions or for those who need immediate assistance without dealing with technical setup.
    • OpenAI API: Best for developers and businesses aiming to integrate AI into their applications, requiring customisation, automation, and scalability.

In essence, choosing between ChatGPT and the OpenAI API depends on your specific needs—whether you prefer a ready-to-use interface for direct interaction or require a flexible, programmable approach for integrating AI into broader applications.
