Does anyone know how to properly insert a termbase to use it for pre-translating a text with the DeepL Translation Provider?

Hi,

I am translating a text using the DeepL Translation Provider plug-in in Trados Studio 24 by clicking on BatchTask > Pre-translate Files. I aim to determine the differences in translations when pre-translating one text with the DeepL Translation Provider without a termbase and another with a termbase. For this comparison, I am using the Post-Edit Compare plug-in, and the termbase was created specifically for this translation.

However, I am encountering an issue where the translations are identical regardless of whether the termbase is used. It seems the termbase is being ignored, and I suspect this might be due to an error during the upload process.

Are there different methods for uploading a termbase?

Thanks for your help.

  • Hello,

It sounds like you're doing a very interesting comparison! To ensure that your termbase is being used correctly with the DeepL Translation Provider plugin in Trados Studio, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Open your project in Trados Studio.

Step 2: Navigate to "Project Settings".

    Step 3: Select "Language Pairs".

Step 4: Choose "All Language Pairs".

    Step 5: Click on "Termbases".

    Step 6: Click on "Use".

    Step 7: Select "Cloud-based Terminology".

Step 8: Here, you should be able to add your termbase.

Please ensure that your termbase is correctly formatted and compatible with Trados Studio. If the termbase is not being recognized, it might be due to an issue with the termbase itself rather than the upload process.

Remember, the DeepL Translation Provider plugin and the termbase should work together to provide the best possible translation. If the translations are identical regardless of whether the termbase is used, it might be that the terms in the termbase are not significantly altering the translation output of the DeepL plugin.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Not a brilliant reply from the AI in this case.  Here's an example of how to do this:

  • Thanks a lot, Paul! That video was really helpful. It's fascinating to see that DeepL sometimes ignores the termbase while other times it does not. I’m curious if there is a way to prioritize terms from the termbase.
