Trying to install DeepL on Studio 2021

Every single time I try to change some settings in this software, I am lost.

I read instructions on how to install DeepL, got the plug-in, or is it an add-in. Whatever.

The first instruction is to Log in to "Trados Enterprise/Accelerate/Team". What is that and how do I login!?

Screenshot of RWS AppStore Applications with a focus on translation results. The window shows NMT results with highlighted text segments.

I am also getting NMT results in this window and I don't want them.

Waiting for condescending assistance from Filkin... :)

Waiting for condescending assistance from Filkin... :)

    Here it comes Culley...

Tried the AI assistance, but that didn't work either. Shocker!

Where did you do this?  I don't see an AI response in the thread?

I read instructions on how to install DeepL, got the plug-in, or is it an add-in. Whatever.

It's not whatever, these are two different things.  A plugin, so called because the extension is sdlplugin and we use the plugin framework to build them, is for Trados Studio.  An add-on is part of the extensibility framework in Language Cloud and not Trados Studio.

The first instruction is to Log in to "Trados Enterprise/Accelerate/Team". What is that and how do I login!?

These products you mention are part of Language Cloud.  So you are following instructions for the add-on.  But in your screenshot you seem to have installed the plugin for Trados Studio.  So you have installed one thing, and then read the instructions for another.

I am also getting NMT results in this window and I don't want them.

Then why did you install DeepL in the first place?  You'd get a better response if you explained why you don't want them and how you want to work with machine translation results from DeepL.

    Was that ok for you?

  • Where did you do this?  I don't see an AI response in the thread? - Because it didn't work. I got an orange-coloured error message that popped up in the top right corner of the browser. I can't remember precisely what it said but it said it's not working.

Okay. Solution? What's the Language Cloud?

Then why did you install DeepL in the first place?  You'd get a better response if you explained why you don't want them and how you want to work with machine translation results from DeepL.

Well, the thing is that I'm getting NMT in the wrong language. I want it to suggest Finnish, but it's suggesting English, so English to English.

    Was that ok for you?

Well, not sufficiently condescending, but pretty good. ;)

    Do you have a solution?

ok - I tested and get the same.  So we'll look at that.  Thanks for explaining it didn't work because you get an error, and not because it just didn't help (which can also happen!):

Error message in RWS Community AI interface stating 'The user with identifier RWS Community AI could not be found.'

Okay. Solution? What's the Language Cloud?

I'm going to hazard a guess this is really not going to be helpful for you at all as you clearly don't use the cloud solutions.  But let's take your questions one at a time; first the solution. To begin with I'd recommend you read the documentation that was available to you when you installed DeepL:

    https://appstore.rws.com/Plugin/24?tab=documentation

You'll note you don't need to log into anything.  In fact I don't even know why you brought that up given you already seem to have it working based on your screenshot of Studio!

So, next question... what is Language Cloud?  This is essentially a suite of features available through your browser ranging from a full blown Translation Management System aimed at Enterprise customers down to Cloud Capabilities that are available to every user of a Trados Studio licence.  You can essentially create a project in the cloud, translate it in the cloud from any computer just by logging in.  You can have translation memories, terminology, machine translation (including DeepL through the add-on and not the plugin) in the cloud.  You can bring your cloud projects into Trados Studio, you can push your Trados Studio projects into the cloud.  It's just another method of working on translation projects that many users take advantage of, and many Enterprises work entirely in.

If you visit https://www.trados.com/product/ you can read a bit more on all the variations of offerings in the cloud, and as a Studio user you may find this helpful: https://www.trados.com/resources/getting-started-with-cloud-capabilities/

Well, the thing is that I'm getting NMT in the wrong language. I want it to suggest Finnish, but it's suggesting English, so English to English.

First thing I did was make sure this works:

Screenshot of Trados Studio with DeepL Translator plugin showing English text with Finnish NMT suggestions.

It seems to.  So the problem is most likely related to how you may have set up your project.  Can you check the exact languages you have used?  I used en-US to fi-FI.  What language pair have you used?  That seems a sensible starting point.

    Do you have a solution?

Some... but when you give up a little more information to help me help you rather than have me extract it like trying to get blood from a stone we may get there!

Well, not sufficiently condescending, but pretty good. ;)

    Better?

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more details about the error messages you are encountering, the version of Trados Studio you are using, and any recent changes you have made to your system.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems like you're having trouble installing the DeepL plugin on Trados Studio 2021. Here are the steps to help you resolve this issue:

Step 1: Ensure that you have the latest version of Trados Studio 2021 installed. You can check this by going to the Help tab > About Trados Studio. If you don't have the latest version, you can download the latest installer from the RWS AppStore.

Step 2: Close Trados Studio 2021, unzip the installer, and double-click it to run it.

Step 3: Open Trados Studio 2021.

Step 4: Uninstall the DeepL Translation Provider plugin. You can do this from the Welcome view > Add-Ins tab > RWS AppStore > Installed plug-ins list. Click on the bin icon or on the Uninstall button.

Step 5: Go to the AppStore tab, search for DeepL, and click on the Install button to reinstall the plugin.

Regarding the NMT results you're seeing, you can disable them by going to the Translation Memories view > Settings > Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Automated Translation, and unchecking the box for "Use machine translation".

As for logging into Trados Enterprise/Accelerate/Team, these are different versions of Trados designed for larger teams and businesses. If you're a single user, you likely don't need to worry about this.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

The AI is fixed again... but best to ignore the response as it's somewhat lacking to help you I think.
