OpenAI plugin - Pre-translate files not working

I'm having trouble using the OpenAI app within Trados Studio, wondering if anyone has experienced this also and has any advice:

I am able to connect to my AI program within Trados and the connection seems to be working as expected. However, when i try to pre-translate my content with OpenAI, i receive the following error:

Screenshot of a Task Results window with an error message. It reads: 'Unexpected exception when configuring file multifileConverter for task Pre-translate Files with OpenAI provider for Trados: Only Exception type is allowed.' The file causing the error is named 'CR_SU_Nov_subtitles_V1_FBEdits.sdlxliff'.

Also, when i open the sdlxliff and go segment by segment, i can do this for a few lines but then it gives up. Any suggestions?

P.S i'm using Trados 2024 and in this example i'm translating an .srt file. I haven't included any TMs or Termbases in the project.

Fro my tests what I can confirm is I was able to use our srt example files and batch translate using OpenAI.
Not helpful for you but I am wondering how much of what you have reported is OpenAI not working vs compromised file.

    For troubleshooting purposes:

    1. Does OpenAI work well using a different file type?
    2. What happens if you process your srt project using a TM/MT provider?

If from your tests nothing is working, is there anything in the log files that may give a bit more detail:

    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Trados AppStore\OpenAI provider for Trados\Logs

    C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\Studio18\logs

Thank you in advance for taking the time to run comparable tests / check the log details and letting me know the outcome

  • Hi Megan,

We are running into this problem as well. Regardless of the file type or even file sizes. One of our data scientists checked what was going on in the back end when we pretranslate a document. The plugin runs more than 60 requests per minute. It looks like this amount of requests is the problem. I'm not sure yet, if it is caused by limitations on our side or on OpenAI side.

    Best regards,

    Raimund
