Trados Business Manager Lite / Studio Time Tracker issues in 18.0.2.3255 – time tracker no longer starts automatically

I've successfully updated Studio to the new version. However, when I open a project, I get the following error Object reference not set to an instance of an object (see full error report below).

After some investigation, this seems to be related to the Trados Business Manager Lite plugin I am using, as the built-in time tracker does not start automatically, and cannot even be started manually with this new version. Studio Time Tracker also seems to work incorrectly.

If I disable the plugin and restart Studio, the error message does not appear.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm aware that Trados Business Manager Lite has been discontinued, but it worked fine in the last version of Studio 2024.

Many thanks!

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more details about the steps you have taken to troubleshoot this issue. Have you tried reinstalling the plugin or contacting the plugin's support? Also, it would be helpful if you could provide more information about your operating system and its version.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems like you're experiencing issues with the Trados Business Manager Lite plugin in Trados Studio 2021. The error message you're receiving, "Object reference not set to an instance of an object," is a common error in .NET programming and usually indicates that you're trying to use an object that hasn't been initialized.

Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue:

Step 1: Try disabling all other plugins except for Trados Business Manager Lite to see if there's a conflict with another plugin.

Step 2: If the issue persists, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Trados Business Manager Lite plugin.

Step 3: If the error still occurs, you might want to consider upgrading to the full version of Trados Business Manager, as the Lite version has been discontinued and may not be fully compatible with the latest version of Trados Studio.

Step 4: If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to perform a reset of Trados Studio. Please follow the steps provided in the SDL article: gateway.sdl.com/.../000001414.

Please note that a Studio repair alone may not fix the issue, but resetting Trados Studio should resolve it.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

  • I have tried reinstalling both plugins and it still does not start automatically.

Note that with Trados Business Manager Lite, the error only occurs when the actual time tracker window is pinned to the sidebar. That way the tracker always started automatically.

    Thank you!

I am glad you managed to find the root cause and also confirmed when the actual time tracker window is pinned to the sidebar, the tracker always started automatically.

I will see what I can do your reported concerns

    Thank you very much!

  • Hello, any updates on this? Tried to reset Studio again without any luck. There seems to be something different in 18.0.2.3255 that breaks the time tracking feature of Trados Business Manager Lite. When I revert back to 2259, it works OK.

  • Hi  ,

I tested both Business Manager and Time Tracker and found that the error originates from the Time Tracker within Business Manager, displaying the message: "Object reference...".

As you are aware, this app is no longer supported, so no further maintenance will be provided.

The Time Tracker app, however, appears to be functioning as expected—I did not encounter any specific issues. If there is a particular action that is not working as expected on your end, please let me know, and I will attempt to replicate the behavior.

Additionally, please let me know which version of Time Tracker you are using.

    Regards,

    Oana
