Non-breaking spaces are not properly handled

Hello,
I am using Trados Studio Freelance 2024 - 18.0.2.3255. I have subscribed to an Azure OpenAI plan with Chat gpt4-o.

My problem is that the non-breaking spaces from the source text are not preserved in the target text. They are either replaced by regular spaces or removed. How can I configure the AI to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance

  • Hello,
Here is an example file (source file in English and target file obtained with Azure in Trados) : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1CYhfV__qXCSz7GZGNKrhN3lFArW04d2i?usp=sharing

I always translate Word files like the one attached. When I translate using only my translation memories, there are no issues.
However, when I use Azure Chat GPT-4-o, the non-breaking spaces after standard references like ISO, IEC, EN, etc., and units are systematically replaced with regular spaces, with &nbsp, or even removed entirely. I use the "Refine translation" prompt, which I’ve supplemented by specifying to preserve the original punctuation, but it still doesn’t work.
On the other hand, when I copy the text directly into the Azure Chat GPT-4-o web interface, the non-breaking spaces are preserved. So something is happening at the interface level between Azure and Trados. I think my prompt is not taken into account.
I don’t want to use AI to fix this issue — I simply want the AI to maintain the same punctuation as in the source text and not force me to carry out additional systematic checks. I want to focus on content, not formatting.
Thank you in advance for your help.
