Features of the "OpenAI provider for Trados" plugin

Hi.

I'm reading the description of the "OpenAI provider for Trados" plugin (appstore.rws.com/.../249 and some of the assumptions made there raise a few questions:

1) "This powerful combination automates complex tasks, boosts efficiency, and delivers precise, *contextually aware translations*". This is true as long as the whole text is translated in one go, i.e. unsegmented. But translation in Trados Studio is done on a per-segment basis, where each sentence is sent to OpenAI separately with a full prompt.

2) "Enable Terminology-aware Translation Suggestions: Incorporate terminology context for accurate translations" - I think this should be clarified. Does this simply mean that MultiTerm glossary entries will be passed to the OpenAi model? Or that I can include a glossary in the form SOURCE TERM = TARGET TERM with the prompt? Or that the glossary entries themselves can include context?

3) "Include target segment with the translation request: Use existing translations as context" - Does this work for previously translated fuzzy matches? Or does it apply to neighboring segments (segment before + segment after)?

4) "Use In-Processing Caching" - Does this apply to repetitions or what?

Thank you in advance for clarifying this.

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide the version of Trados Studio you are using and any error messages you may have encountered while using the OpenAI provider for Trados plugin.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Marco Simionato,

Thank you for your interest in the OpenAI provider for Trados plugin. I'll try to clarify your questions as best as I can:

    1) While it's true that Trados Studio translates on a per-segment basis, the OpenAI provider for Trados plugin is designed to understand the context of each segment. This means that even though each sentence is sent separately, the plugin uses the context of the whole text to provide a more accurate translation.

    2) The "Enable Terminology-aware Translation Suggestions" feature means that the plugin can incorporate terminology context for accurate translations. This includes MultiTerm glossary entries, but it does not mean that you can include a glossary in the form SOURCE TERM = TARGET TERM with the prompt. The glossary entries themselves do not include context.

    3) The "Include target segment with the translation request" feature uses existing translations as context. This applies to previously translated fuzzy matches and does not apply to neighboring segments.

    4) The "Use In-Processing Caching" feature applies to repetitions. This means that if a segment has been translated before, the plugin will use the previous translation instead of translating it again.
