Errors when trying to create a TermBase using the projectTermExtract plugin

When right-clicking on the project file created using the projectTermExtract plugin and then clicking on Generate Termbase, the Error Message "Unable to generate the TermBase!MultiTerm is unable to create the termbase ..The termbase can be found at the following location: C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Temp\Tb"

Error message stating 'Unable to generate the termbase! MultiTerm is unable to create the termbase. The termbase can be found at the following location: C:UsersUserNameAppDataLocalTempTb'.

When trying to open in MultiTerm the .sdltb file that was generated, the following message is displayed:

Dialog box with message 'This termbase has been created with an older version of MultiTerm and needs to be updated. This can take several minutes. Continue opening termbases?' and YesNo buttons.

When clicking Yes, the following Error Message is displayed:

Error message stating 'There was a problem opening the termbase at C:UsersgeorgDownloads25-DEC-001_Presentation_2025_06_05_11_44.xml.sdltb. Check that this is a valid termbase and that you have permission to access it.' with YesNo buttons.

That's a lot of Error Messages. What steps should I follow to be able to generate a usable TermBase?

Question improvement suggestion: Provide the exact version of Trados Studio and MultiTerm you are using, as well as any recent changes made to your system or software.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

Hello! It seems you're encountering multiple error messages when trying to create a TermBase using the projectTermExtract plugin. Here are some steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

**Step 1:** Ensure that your software is up to date. Check for any updates for Trados Studio and MultiTerm, and install them if available.

**Step 2:** Verify that the user interface language in SDL MultiTerm Desktop is set to English (United States). You can do this by going to View > User Interface Language.

**Step 3:** Try creating the TermBase directly in SDL MultiTerm Desktop instead of through the projectTermExtract plugin. You can do this by selecting 'New Termbase' and following the prompts to create a new termbase.

**Step 4:** If you still encounter issues, consider the following workarounds:

    - **Workaround 1:** Create the termbase you want to use in SDL MultiTerm Extract through SDL MultiTerm Desktop 2011.

    - **Workaround 2:** Open MultiTerm and the termbase you created for the SDL MultiTerm Extract project.

**Step 5:** If you receive an error when trying to open the .sdltb file, you can attempt to fix it by renaming the .sdltb file to include the .mdb extension, opening it in Microsoft Access, allowing Access to fix any issues, and then renaming it back.

**Step 6:** If the problem persists, consider resetting the MultiTerm termbase list settings by navigating to the appropriate folder in your AppData and renaming or deleting the relevant MultiTerm folder.

**Step 7:** As a last resort, you may want to uninstall and reinstall both Trados Studio and MultiTerm to ensure that you have the latest versions and that any corrupted files are replaced.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

  • Tried Workaround 1 Downloaded MultiTerm 2011. When installing it, got the following error message:

Error message in SDL MultiTerm Desktop 2011 Setup: An error occurred while downloading a required file. Options shown are Details, Retry, and Cancel.

    Retry doesn't solve the issue,,,
