Unexpected error while loading application plugins - Trados 2022

I am experiencing a persistent error when trying to launch Trados Studio 2022. The error message is:

"Unexpected error while loading application plugins."
(System.IO.FileFormatException – ZipIOEndOfCentralDirectoryBlock.FindPosition)

Error window displaying 'Unexpected error while loading application plugins' with details about a System.IO.FileFormatException and a stack trace in Spanish.

This issue began after installing a few third-party plugins from the RWS AppStore. Since then, I have been unable to launch the application.

I have already performed the following steps without success:

- Uninstalled Trados Studio and MultiTerm completely.
- Deleted all related folders:

%appdata%\SDL\
%localappdata%\SDL\
C:\ProgramData\SDL\
C:\Program Files (x86)\Trados\

- Reinstalled Trados Studio 2022 SR2 (version 17.2.12.19268) using a clean installer.
- Verified that there are no third-party plugins present in any Packages or Unpacked folders.
- Tried launching the application with /disableplugins – the error still appears.
- Ran sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth – both completed successfully.
- Restarted the system multiple times.

Despite these steps, the error persists.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Question improvement suggestion: Provide more details about the specific third-party plugins you installed and any additional error messages you may have encountered.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems you're encountering a persistent error when trying to launch Trados Studio 2022 due to the "Unexpected error while loading application plugins." Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

**Step 1:** Close all RWS applications completely.

**Step 2:** Navigate to the following directories and rename or delete the `Plugins` folder:

    - For Trados Studio 2022:

     `C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\17\Plugins`

    - For Local folder:

     `C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Trados\Trados Studio\17\Plugins`

    - For Program Data:

     `C:\ProgramData\Trados\Trados Studio\17\Plugins`

**Step 3:** After renaming or deleting the `Plugins` folder, you may also want to check for any remaining third-party plugins in the `Packages` and `Unpacked` folders and remove them.

**Step 4:** Run a repair installation of Trados Studio. To do this, go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, find Trados Studio 2022, right-click on it, and select "Repair."

**Step 5:** Restart your computer and then try to open Trados Studio again.

**Step 6:** If the issue persists, consider reinstalling the plugins you need from the integrated AppStore in Trados Studio, ensuring they are compatible with your version.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, please check for any recent updates to your operating system or consider reaching out for further assistance.
