Trados Studio 2024 – OpenAI provider returns English MT output instead of target language

I’m using Trados Studio 2024 with the OpenAI provider. I’m seeing the same issue across different language pairs. For example, when I select RU → IT in Project Settings, the MT output is in English instead of Italian. Only segments with matches in my TM appear in Italian.
The same happens for IT → UK: new MT output is in English, while segments with matches are in Ukrainian. I previously used Trados Studio 2024 with the OpenAI provider and did not encounter this issue; it has only occurred with the last 3–4 documents.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems you are experiencing an issue with the OpenAI provider in Trados Studio 2024, where the machine translation (MT) output is consistently returning in English instead of the target language. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

    **Step 1:** Check Project Settings

    - Go to Project Settings > Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Translation Memory and Automated Translation. Ensure that the correct MT provider is selected and that the settings are configured properly for the desired language pairs (e.g., RU → IT, IT → UK).

    **Step 2:** Disable Look Ahead

    - If you have Look Ahead enabled, try disabling it. This feature can sometimes interfere with MT output. You can find more information on how to use Look Ahead in the documentation.

    **Step 3:** Pre-translate the Document

    - Pre-translate your document with the MT provider enabled. After pre-translation, consider deactivating the MT provider and re-enabling it to see if this resolves the issue.

**Step 4:** Check for Conflicting Providers

    - If you are using both Cloud-based resources and the Language Weaver provider, disable one of them, as they may conflict. Go to File > Options > Language Pairs > All Language Pairs > Translation Memory and Automated Translation and disable the unnecessary provider.

    **Step 5:** Review TM Settings

    - Ensure that you have not added translation memories under both 'All Language Pairs' and specific language pairs. Remove any unnecessary TMs from the specific language pair settings.

    **Step 6:** Update Software

    - Make sure you are using the latest version of Trados Studio 2024. Updates often include bug fixes and improvements that could resolve your issue.

If the problem persists after trying these steps, it may be beneficial to monitor for updates from RWS regarding the known issue with TU statuses and the planned corrective update.
