Error message loading application plug-ins when opening Studio 2015

Hello,
When opening SDL Studio, it stops with the following message: "ErrorMessage>An unexpected error has occurred while loading the application plug-ins." Closing the windows allow Studio to start but without plug-ins. Anyone with a suggestion to solve the issue?
Note: I did try to configure the Web Lookup application the day before... This has probably something to do with the issue.
Any help appreciated. Thanks. Jean

  • Hello Jean,

Try removing the plugins and restart Studio, that will at least rule out the Web Lookup as the cause of your issue.  So delete these files/folders:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12\Plugins\Packages\Web Lookup.sdlplugin

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12\Plugins\Unpacked\Web Lookup\

Then restart Studio and see if the problem has gone away.

    Regards

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks for your suggestion, but it didn't work. Could be something else ? This morning when starting up, a window opened to ask for the activation code. Is this to be expected as well ?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi Jean,

ok - good to know it wasn't the WebLookup causing the problem. In this case can you rename these files:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12.0.0.0\UserSettings.xml

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12.0.0.0\BaseSettings.xml

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12.0.0.0\plugincache.xml

    Then restart Studio.

    Regards

    Paul

  • Hi Paul,
I did find the files but I am not sure what do you mean by "renaming" the files. Could you explain?
    Thanks much.
    Jean
  • Hi Jean,

You could delete them and they will be recreated, but given they may contain things you have customised I prefer to rename them to see whether it helps. If you have not customised Studio at all, then don't worry, just delete them.

But by rename I meant change usersettings.xml to usersettings.xml_ for example. So I added the underscore to the end. You could rename them to anything you like... the important thing is Studio doesn't recognise them and will recreate a default.

    Does that help?

  • Hi Paul,

    I did rename the files but to no effect. I saved the details of the error message. Would that help? On the other hand, being new to Studio 2015, I haven't much customized the interface so if it takes to reinstall, that is a possibility..;
    Thanks
    Jean

    1. Hi Jean,

ok - one last thing to try.  Can you rename this folder and restart Studio:

    c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\

    If that fails can you try the following;

    1. Uninstall Studio
    2. Make sure the following folders are completely removed after uninstalling
      c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\
      c:\Program Files (x86)\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\Studio4\
    3. Install Studio again

If that still doesn't resolve the problem I'll log a case for you and we'll get a support engineer to take a look.

    Regards

    Paul
