How do I install the MS grammar plug-in?

Did you run the installer you downloaded from the store? 
 
If that seems too obvious then perhaps your browser lost the extension of the file. Try adding a .zip to it and see if you can unzip it and find the installer inside?

ok - if you downloaded an sdlplugin file then you just double click it and choose the version of Studio it will install to. That's it. 
 
If this doesn't work for you then clearly this is because of some other problem... maybe permissions or something. You could try copying the plugin to this location and just restart Studio: 
 
c:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12\Plugins\Packages\

 You should not need to associate anything. You also only require the plugin installer if you have Studio 2015 SP1 or lower. The latest version of Studio has the plugin installer preinstalled. If you have the time this article might be useful for you:
