This document details how to install and test an SDL Tridion Content Manager 2013 install on Windows 2012 with a SQL Server database.

Tutorial Sections:

Installing Visual Studio 2012

  • Map the VM CD/DVD drive to the ISO file with the Visual Studio installation files or alternatively use the exe.
  • Launch the installer.
  • Accept the license agreement and click next
  • Select any preferred optional features and select Install.
  • Select Yes if prompted.
  •  Go check your question or answer on Tridion Stack Exchange while it installs.
  • Done! Choose Launch or Close the window.
  • Choose default settings relevant to your programming habits or aspirations (or simply choose Visual C# Development Settings).

Optional: Install other IDEs and Development Software

Optionally add IDEs and source control software such as:

  • Eclipse
  • Notepad++ or Notepad2
  • XML Spy (requires purchase)
  • Tortoise SVN
  • Ankh SVN plugin for Visual Studio

"Kick Start" Your Development VM

Now's a good time to suspend or stop your VM and create another back-up.
Nuno Linhares, author of the original Creating a Development VM article and former Principal Consultant, has since spent a good amount of time setting up SDL Tridion 2013 environments as Product Manager for the SDL Tridion Product Line.
