First look at Topology Management UI in SDL Web 8.5

after installing SDL Web 8.5, a new menu item showing up: "Topology Management", I guess many people wanted to have a quick overview of Topology settings.

the main screen of Topology Management is Environments, select one item from Environments pops up all the details of the environment in a panel on right side. including Environment ID, Purpose, Discovery Endpoint URL, Authentication Type, User Name, Configured Capabilities and Web Sites.

Well, that is not all Topology Management UI, to continue, you can click on Website1 which is mapped to this environment. the panel rotates to the second panel Website Details, this panel includes: Website ID, Base URLs and Web Applications

click on Website1_RootWebApp to rotate to the third panel Web Application Details, this panel includes Web Application ID Context URL and Web Application URLs.

as SDL's Newsletter Q4, this is a "Topology Manager overview UI", so this is not a full-featured editing tool like PowerShell version has Add, remove, update etc. but for checking Topology configuration, this overview UI is quick and easy. if you using SDL Web Cloud and cannot access PowerShell remotely, you can get configuration from this overview UI.

  • Note that we included the write functionality for mapping under Publication properties, which was first released as a GUI extension in the community.

The Configured Capabilities feature came up based on feedback from a few community members and our Professional Services colleagues. A few said they wanted to quickly find out what was configured for a given environment. We understood this didn't necessarily need to be in the UI, but the Topology Manager UI turned out to be a good fit for this information.
