Sdl universal plugin installer

A few weeks back I started working at an universal plugin installer that will simply the publish process for every SDL Studio Developer. The main trigger for this is the close release of SDL Studio 2015 and the need for almost every developer to upgrade their installer since the SDL Studio version is using a new plugin folder. If you want to read more about how to make sure your plugin is ready for SDL Studio 2015 have a look here:

To find out more about how the universal installer is working please have a look here:

If you want to try it now you can grab it from here:

We are looking to distribute this universal installer as part of Sdl Studio 2015 and of course on OpenExchange. I would like to get your feedback on this and of course any suggestion is more than welcomed

  • Every studio plugin is in essence a package (think like a zip), now in order for this to work it needs to be copied in certain locations from where Studio knows how to load it. Since not every user knows how and where to do this usually developers create installers for their plugins to automate the deploy on the user machine. Until now each developer was on his own regarding how the user will deploy his plugin but we want to make things easier so this is an alternative way to deploy the plugin.

If you are interested in more details please read section 2 of this article (although is for Studio 2015 the only difference from Studio 2014 is the actual folder):
