Getting started with the APIs

I have installed Visual studio Community 2015 and the SDL SDK. But when I start VS I can see no SDL templates. Is there a very basic guide to getting it all set up.

Can you please let me know if you first installed Visual Studio or the SDL SDK? Also what operating system are you using? In theory this should just work as we tested the SDK with the Community Edition. You can also download already created empty projects from here.

I remember when installing templates for VS Visual Basic there was also a problem installing the templates for the AutoCAD SDK, they too did not show up when creating a new project. The problem there was that that my computers are running German operating systems with a language code of 1031 and not the 1033 for English. The solution then was to create copies of the template directory but rename it 1031. Then a few lines of code had to be changed in the *.vsdir and *.vsz files and then it worked. But I can't find any such files for C#.

Could the language code be a problem?

It might be the language code but I can't say for sure. I'll try to do some testing with a different language code. Can you also please try and uninstall the SDK and install it again? Might be because when you installed the Studio SDK the VS was not on your machine.

I deinstalled the SDK and then re-installed on both machines and also restarted the computers, but the templates still do not show up when creating a new project in Visual Studio.

I loaded the two SLNs in VS, Plug-in Project and Translator Provider Plug-in and exported them as templates. I now have these two templates available when creating a new project.

Better than nothing but I would still like to have the SDK templates. Did you manage to do any testing with the language codes?

Have you had an opportunity to test the language codes?

In which folder are the SDL templates to be found when installing the SDK on a machine running an English Windows OS?

I was able to reproduce the problem on my machine which is in English. We intend to change the way we provide the project templates and make them available in Visual Studio 2015 as an extension for Visual Studio. More details to come when we are ready to release it.

Hi Romulus!
I have the same issue. SDLTradosStudio2015SR2SDK.exe runs, makes progress and closes without errors. No installed samples in SDL folder and no templates in Visual Studio 2015 CE after. How could I start with SDK? Are there other possibilities? How is it long waiting for the extension?
