There is no function available for attaching a file to a post, an essentially required basic function.
A workaround is to use the "Insert/Edit media" button for this, but this is (1) absolutely counter-intuitive and (2) tricky because it inserts a huge folder image into the post.
Please have a look at this post to get more insight into what I mean (and also into the fact that many people struggle with this issue).

So, here is also an honest answer.
Right now the community is run by me and 1 developer who has just north of 250 tickets/requests to solve in 2015. We also draw the line if we have to customize the core as this is unmaintainable. So, if we have to customize the core, we do not do it. I do take you serious but want to point that we have to balance a lot of stakeholder's interests and that comes with choices. This one is def a good idea. No debate about it. We'll see how we can solve this.
2 weeks ago we had a crash while testing our upgrade process. It was a backup clone on Amazon that went haywire. I'm pushing hard as we have many tickets in that build as well.
We are migrating from Telligent 8 Std to Telligent 8.5 Pro core. This will give us effectively: Friend Chat, Ideation , Group Analytics and a rules engine. It will also give us much needed fixes to some very persistent bugs that we have encountered.
I do want to keep these conversations going as they are very valuable. In all honesty we thought we would have a lower ramp up curve but the usage has been quite good and that brings a 'luxury' problem of many users and many ideas. Mind you, although in TP we've had a head start, in other businesses this is only 9 months available.
