License check failed

Hello,

we are using SDL licence server 1.7

Most users are using SDL Trados Studio 2014 and at the same time an in-house created tool that uses the APIs for project creation (API also 2014).

Some users get the following error while using the tool that uses that API, however when they open SDL Trados Studio 2014 a license key has been assigned.

License check failed, with exception: Sdl.Core.FileCheck.FileCheckException: Unknown error

(Support reference: -130)

at Sdl.Core.FileCheck.License.Authorize()
at Sdl.DesktopLicensing.Core.CoreLicenseManager.GetLicense(Boolean checkOutLicense)
at Sdl.ProjectApi.Licensing.LicenseCheckWithoutUsingNetworkSeat.get_License()
at Sdl.ProjectAutomation.FileBased.FileBasedProject.CheckLicense()

Does the API request a seperate License key or the same as SDL Trados Studio? We still have enough free license keys so I'm not sure what the problem is. Until now this is only happening sporadically.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

    I just wrote an article about that error today that might help. Its not live/fully reviewed yet but maybe something you can try out even though the message is not exactly the same:

    Symptoms

    You start SDL Trados Studio and the following error is displaying:

    Cannot connect to the licence server.
    Please check that you have entered the correct license server name and have network access.
    Error Details: Unknown error (Support reference: -130)

    Explanation

    Known reasons for this error while Studio is trying to connect to the SDL Licensing Toolkit:
    • Network connection between client PC and server/PC on that the SDL Licensing Toolkit resides cannot be established.
    • SDL Trados Studio network license is not properly activated/licensed.
    • SDL Trados Studio has not enough rights to establish a connection to the SDL Licensing Toolkit

    Resolution

    Solution 1

    To avoid unnecessary steps, restart your PC and try again to start SDL Trados Studio. In most cases this already helps. If not please follow the solutions below one by one until the error does not appear again.

    Solution 2: Run SDL Trados Studio as administrator.

    Run Studio ones per startup as administrator:

    1. On the START menu, locate SDL Trados Studio that you want to always run as an administrator.
    2. Right-click the application’s shortcut, and then click Run as Administrator.

    Run Studio always as administrator:

    To mark an application to always run as an administrator, do the following:

    1. On the START menu, locate SDL Trados Studio that you want to always run as an administrator.
    2. Right-click the application’s shortcut, and then click Properties.
    3. In the Properties dialog box, click the Compatibility tab.
    4. Do one of the following:
      • To apply the setting to the currently logged-on user, select the Run This Program As An Administrator check box, and then click OK.
      • To apply the setting to all users on the computer and regardless of which shortcut is used to start the application, click Change Setting For All Users to display the Properties dialog box for the SDL Trados Studio executable file, select the Run This Program As An Administrator check box, and then click OK twice.

    Solution 3: (Re-)install SDL Trados Studio as administrator.

    If not installed...

    1. Right-click on the SDL Trados Studio installer
    2. Choose Run as administrator.
    3. After the installation start Studio.

    If already installed...

    1. Uninstall SDL Trados Studio 2011/2014 components via the Control Panel:
      • Windows Vista/7/8: START > Control Panel > Programs and Features
        Note: Make sure you remove all SDL MultiTerm 2009 (or higher) components, including all updates and service packs.
    2. Download the SDL Trados Studio from your My Account area.
    3. After the download finished right-click on the SDL Trados Studio installer.
    4. Choose Run as administrator.
    5. After the installation start Studio.

    Solution 4: De- and activate the Network license for SDL Trados Studio.

    In rare cases a deactivation and reactivation of the network license can solve this behavior:
