Live Team : lack of project and file info in TM and concordance search

Hello

In Live Team, there is no project info capture with segments that are saved in the TM, contrary to Studio and GroupShare. This is a major shortcoming, as context is everything in translation. Without knowing which project, file, client a segment is coming from, it's difficult to know if it should be used or not.

You should put this at the top of your enhancement list.

The only info available is the TM name, author name and date. This is not enough.

  • Hello,

I started filling out the fields that were suggested, and now the info is displaying:

So it looks as though this is working.

    Thank you!

  • Hello again, I have been exploring the Translation memory fields under Translation memory settings in a project template workflow, and eventhough I've read the instructions provided in the User Help, I can't figure out how to use them. For instance, I wonder about the File name category. If there are multiple files in a project, would that mean that we would have to fill that in manually for each file name? Or would it only be possible to input only one file name?

Then, when I look at the Group field, there is a drop-down list that already exists and I really have no idea where that is coming from, because I never inputted this in.

Where can I find more information about this functionnality?

  • Hello, I did notice that in the Workflow step of a project template, there is a section for Translation Memory filters that looks like this:

For one project, I did fill it out with all the info I would usually get with concordance search in Trados Studio + File-based TM system. However, once the project was done, when I did a concordance search with a segment from that project, there was still no information regarding the TU in the TM search window.

In the previous system, the information inputted (file name, client, group, date and TM name) automatically display with each TU in the concordance search window. I am not quite sure that the filter fonction enables us to actually have valuable information.

If we were to do what you suggest, my understanding is that we would need 30 to 40 different templates to capture all the possibilities (10 departments x the number of "clients" within each department). So basically, we would be going from :

    1) previous system : inputting the info upon creation of project (3-4 fields to fill)

    2) Live team : creating 30 to 40 templates (maybe more), having to choose between 30 to 40 templates for each project creation, in addition to filling out the project creation fields anyway.

As a translation team working within an organization, this is not really answering our needs. Being able to see File name, Client name and Department name in the concordance window is for us the most precious information that outweighs penalties in a TM.

What can we do to be able to see this information?

I read a little about the filters in the Live Team documentation, and it looks as if they are useful for TM maintenance, which is not the same thing.

  • - you can set fields and values per project template - this way, you can have a template per customer with predefined fields/values you can use for filtering/penalties.

While in some cases, file name and project name could help identify where the TU comes from, that is not common and mostly for bigger customers they are quite abstract, so using fields you can manage is preferable.

  • - feature about the TU status is already implemented. Basically each TU holds the status from which it comes, e.g. from translation or review, and you can set penalties in your project to penalize e.g. TUs from translation and not penalize reviewed TUs.
