Make "Release Task" Button Work for Multiple Files in a Cloud Project

Currently, when I work with a cloud project in Trados Studio, I see that "Release Task" button in the banner is greyed out when multiple files are selected. The button is avaiable for single files only. I work on cloud projects containing dozens and hundreds of files daily as a PM and I often need to do some manual preparation locally after the cloud project is created and downloaded to Trados Studio before returning them back to the cloud and re-assigning to the translators.

I suggest if RWS could make the button available even when multiple files are selected. I clearly remembered that the "Complete Task" button used to be greyed out when multiple files were selected in earlier Trados versions. Now, the "Complete Task" button works for multiple files, even hundreds of files. Hopefully RWS could do the same for the "Release Task" button.

I guess some may argue that I can create a return package to do the same.

The problem with a return package is that, I cannot tell exactly when all the files in the return package has been successfully implemented into the cloud project, or in other words, has successfully overwriten the original files in the project in the cloud. When a return package gets uploaded, I see a message at the top-right corner saying something like "your package has been successfully uploaded, but it may take some extra time for it to be processed." And I never get to know when they are successfully processed. Nor is there a "Last Modification" column in the Files view to indicate the last modification date/time of each file. I usually wait a couple of hours or until the next day to reassign the project.

  • Enable "Release Task" for Multiple File Selection in Cloud Projects

    Ticket Description

In Trados Studio cloud projects, the Release Task button in the banner is currently disabled when multiple files are selected. It is only available when a single file is selected.

As a Project Manager, I work with cloud projects containing dozens or even hundreds of files. After creating and downloading a cloud project in Trados Studio, I often need to perform local manual preparation before returning files to the cloud and reassigning them to translators. Releasing tasks one file at a time is inefficient and time-consuming.

A similar limitation previously existed for Complete Task, but that action now supports multiple selected files, including large batches. It would be very helpful if Release Task could be updated to behave the same way.

Why Return Packages Are Not a Full Workaround

    • While return packages can be used, they do not provide clear confirmation of when all uploaded files have actually been processed and overwritten in the cloud project.
    • After upload, Studio shows a message indicating the package was uploaded successfully but may take additional time to process. There is no clear completion signal and no "Last Modification" column in the Files view to verify per-file update time.
    • Because of this uncertainty, reassignment is often delayed by hours or even until the next day.

    Requested Improvement

Please enable Release Task for multiple selected files in cloud projects, consistent with current Complete Task behavior.

    Business Impact

    • Reduces repetitive manual work for PMs handling large projects
    • Speeds up turnaround and reassignment to translators
    • Improves confidence and efficiency in cloud-based project workflows
