Default behaviour in translation status - can it be changed?

Hello,

When finishing translation in Trados Studio, the default behavior is that the project status changes to "In review", the progress bar of the translation is reset to 0. We would like to know if we can change this default behaviour and avoid that Studio automatically switches the projects to "In review" status.

Thanks in advance.

  • Blank segments are not stored in TM, but in some cases you may need to leave some specific segments blank in the deliverable document. For example, when your client forbids merging segments but you strongly need to reverse the word order for two incorrectly split segments (e.g., when you have to translate HSE Manager split in two segments, HSE and Manager, in the source language into Manager of HSE in the target language). In cases like these, I put my translation in a proper word order for one segment and leave the second segment blank. The problem is that if you simply confirm a blank segment, Trados would populate it with source no matter whether you copy source to target or not. To keep a blank segment blank, you have to assign it one of the review statuses, Translation Approved for example. However in this case you would end up with that annoying In Review status.

  • I'm sorry, Gwen, the site software has misinterpreted my intention to vote for Jerzy's suggestion, which seems the best way of catering for your specific need. With best wishes to you all, Adam.

Empty segments are not stored in the TM. Please try to propose your solution with an extra status in translation process, this seems to be a good idea. A status called "translated, not to update TM" could be the solution to what was suggested here, leaving all the processes as they are for people using them in their work, like me.

  • Le monde (de la traduction) est petit ! Yes we do use Studio + GroupShare at the Organisation.

Your workaround doesn't seem to do the trick for us (File status remains "in review" and the progress bar remains stuck at 0). We've however devised a different nefarious plan: for now, we'll simply confirm the empty segments and have to live with the fact that this will throw noise into our TMs.

Thanks to you (and Philippe and Jerzy) for sharing your experience and helping us refine our request!

  • "What I do when the software throws the work into revision phase is to start from scratch with "Open for translation", which resets the segments as for translation, not review.."
It's exactly what I do every time.

... and I begin to lose hope in seeing a 64-bit version some day, despite the fact it is largely requested...
