File Type for Sketch files

Hi team,

we have more and more Sketch files to localize and we were wondering if it's possible to add a file type in Studio or at least to have a plug-in for this file type.
We have discovered that XTM handles .sketch files and so we are using it for now but it would be great if we could stay in the Studio environment.
Sketch files are comprised of .json files in a pages folder. What we did before using XTM is to extract the .json files and put them in Trados using JSON paths ..string and ..value (which is where the translatable text is found). Turns out that XTM uses the same JSON paths to extract the content. However, it's more convenient because we don't need to extract anything beforehand, we use the .sketch file directly. It would be super practical to have either a permanent filetype in the future releases of Studio or a plug-in because for some projects we have 25 target languages.

It would be great if the filetype could exclude what is locked.

If you need a .sketch file as example to use for testing, I can provide you with that.

Best,

Chris

  • Hi Paul,

thanks for your reply. I sent you a file through Teams, let me know if I should send it via another method. Unfortunately, I have no contact at Sketch.

One more thing I should add: we don't have a license of Sketch but instead use Lunacy from Microsoft to edit and save the files as .sketch. (It is possible to edit the files via Adobe xD as well, but we cannot say them as Sketch.) When doing saw and putting them in XTM, the tool somehow say that the file is invalid. Is this something you can look into as well? I can send you the same file edit with Lunacy.

You can send me some files, but it would be better to get access to a proper specification for this filetype so we can address all scenarios and not rely on reverse engineering sample files.  I just contacted Sketch through their website to see if they such a thing but if you have a contact there it might be helpful?
